Useful Websites

Through my studies, I have developed a list of 10 websites perfect for elementary students! Each of these websites were chosen with the purpose of making personalized learning easily accessible in the classroom and at home. Not every website is free, but most of them come with a free version. I highly recommend checking each one out to see if it is the right fit for your classroom!

1. Kidsa-z.com: RAZ Kids gives students a fun, personalized reading experience! Teachers, enter each child's Developmental Reading Assessment level and immediately you will notice a whole classroom library appear in their book room. After the first read, students can record themselves to monitor their fluency, add new vocabulary words to their dictionary, and take a comprehension quiz! Each task that is completed results in the earning of stars. Students can then use their stars to buy accessories for their robot!

2. Khanacademy.org: Khan Academy makes differentiating math easy and effective! Each student starts off by taking a quick assessment to figure out their math level. Students are then given lessons through the use of tutorial videos and practice questions. Since Khan Academy allows students to move at their own pace, students also have the opportunity to move up grade levels all from the comfort of their digital device.

3. Spellingcity.com: Spelling City allows teachers to upload individualized word lists creating a truly personalized learning experience. Students have the option of playing vocabulary games, practicing flashcards, and taking their spelling test right on this one of a kind website! Every time a spelling test is successfully completed, students can print off their certificates as proof of proficiency and move on to the next list.

4. Piktochart.com: Piktochart allows presentations to come to life by providing the tools to create infographics to portray facts, data charts, and other forms of visual information. Students can change the background colors, images, insert texts and banners, empowering them to create a powerful report in a short amount of time. Piktochart can be used for any content area and is a great assessment alternative to taking a test.

5. Popplet.com: Popplet is a mind-map generator that allows students to organize their thoughts and learning in a visual manner. Students create a web to display images, videos, facts, and thoughts and connect them to show relationships. Each idea can be color coded giving it easy readability for all users. Popplet mind-maps can then be saved and displayed on blogs, webpages, and other forms of media giving its users an authentic audience.

6. Readwritethink.org:  Read Write Think has many resources to help students become stronger writers. Students can work on poetry, informational pieces, letter recognition, and essay maps. Teachers can also print off these resources to use in small group lessons.

7. Kidblog.org: Kidblog allows teachers to sign up their students to be apart of a completely safe but authentic blogging experience. Students can read and respond to each others posts giving their writing a purpose. Outside users can be given access with teacher approval. Every post and response must be approved by the teacher before it becomes officially posted.

8. ABCYA.org: ABCYA allows students to select their grade level and be immediately directed to engaging letter, number, strategy, holiday, strategy, and skill games! Students will have so much fun they will forget they are learning.

9. Prezi.com: Prezi allows students to create their own maps of texts, images, videos, PDFs, drawings and present in a unique nonlinear way. Once created, each click will allow the presentation to zoom in on one part of the map at a time. Viewers will be unable to look away as they are being moved from image, to video, to text. This is a refreshing change from the classic PowerPoint students are used to using. Students can upload their Prezi's to other media outlets giving them a real audience and purpose.

10. Photopeach.com: Photopeach allows students to upload their own photographs, choose background music, and add captions to create their own unique slideshow great for presenting to their classmates and community! It takes the traditional presentation format and turns it into a scrolling movie.
